The Coeur d’Alene Police Department is currently in the process of applying for the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Local Solicitation for FY 2010. The total allocation of this disparate grant with Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) FundingThe Coeur d’Alene Police Department have submitted an application for the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Program Local Solicitation grant for fiscal year 2009. The Coeur d'Alene Police Department is eligible for $76,669 in federal money. The grant is under the Department of Justice. The Justice Department's mission is to assist state, local, and tribal efforts to prevent or reduce crime and violence. The notice came out on May 22, 2009 with the deadline being July 9, 2009.
The Coeur dAlene Police Department is currently submitting a joint Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) application on behalf of the Coeur d'Alene Police Department and Kootenai County Sheriff's Department to fund 2009 Law Enforcement Projects. A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) has been signed between the agencies to distribute the funds based upon the Federal guideline established. As a result of this agreement, $320,413 of the $468,556 grant funds available will be distributed to the Coeur d'Alene Police Department and $148,143 to the Kootenai County Sheriff's Department. State BYRNE – JAG Grant Application: Intel Led Policing Project: The mission of this project is to optimize our ability to deter, remove, arrest and prosecute criminals involved in drugs, violence and other harmful activities. We believe this can be achieved by improving our operational effectiveness through the use of Intelligence-Led Policing Practices (US Dept of Justice Policing Model). This project will be a comprehensive approach to both identifying, analyzing and intervening in criminal drug activity, gang activity and property crime activity, and improving community/law enforcement relations. This project proposes adding two officers to work street level drug and gang cases and adding a second crime analyst to our Crime Analysis Unit. We believe that if implemented, this program would have an impact on crime in · Improve our intelligence operations by creating more fluid structures of collecting information (our analyst reviewing and analyzing weekly crime data) and moving intelligence to end users (our officers and networked law enforcement agencies) more quickly. · Integrate community policing (using crime mapping and COPS volunteer activities) and problem-solving (using targeted street level drug and gang operations) into intelligence operations (using Crime Analysis to facilitate drug and gang investigations and Intel gathering) to address conventional crime issues. · Engaging and collaboration with the community on all levels (using crime mapping, COPS Volunteer activities, and targeted Patrol activities). · The proposed cost of this grant proposal will be $750,000 for three years which includes personnel costs, equipment and operating expenses. This grant application has been submitted and is pending approval.
